Cannabis falls into a class of plants that I like to refer to as power plants or entheogens. This also includes psilocybin mushrooms, Ayahuasca and San Pedro cactus to name a few.
Establishment media and government agencies have traditionally called them drugs, but I disagree with the nomenclature. A drug is typically an extract or active ingredient of a plant taken through chemical refinement to end up as a drug. An example would be aspirin. The story of the discovery of aspirin stretches back more than 3500 years to when bark from the willow tree was used as a pain reliever and antipyretic. The influences and effects of the two (plant versus drug) are different.
The key to a positive power plant experience is said to be set and setting. Physical location, the surrounding ambience, the people one may or may not be doing it with, physical health and integrity and our mindset all come into play. Cannabis can be used in a variety of ways. It can be used recreationally, as a pain reliever or medicine. Active ingredients one thinks of are THC and CBD. There’s a lot of research being done on other active ingredients that can have psychoactive and/or medicinal applications.

There is additional thought regarding cannabis being used in a mindful manner or spiritual way.
The percentage of THC in cannabis has increased tremendously since the 1960s. Legalization and/or medicinal approval in a variety of states has led to a flourishing of different strains, percentages of THC, CBD and terpenes, as well as a number of different ingestion methods.
I will share some of my preferences regarding set, setting and ingestion methodology.
First thing to keep in mind is, although one may live in the United States of America, it is not united as regards laws and legalities regarding cannabis.
Know your state laws and act accordingly.
Second thing I am a big believer in is the state of mind and physical health that one brings to the session. Being in a positive state of mind, well rested, well hydrated and fed leads to a better outcome.
Personally, I prefer just occasional indulgence, typically about once a month, sometimes longer or shorter durations. My preferred ways of indulging are high quality, organically grown product in the form of dark chocolate (my preference for concerts) or vaped via a volcano vaporizer.

I have a non-digital model and like the setting set lower around # 5. (Around 352 degrees Fahrenheit)
This produces a less smoky, almost mist like vapor easier on the body and lungs. The “smell” is reduced considerably via this method. I like to freshly grind the flower and often combine with other herbs like peppermint or spearmint. “Peppermint Pot” is amazing!
We have a screened in porch overlooking a river that has some nice privacy. We often like to do it as the sun is setting over the river.
I like the phrase “I invite in God, spirit, masters, angels and all spiritual guides as needed” before beginning. Setting the table with positive intention.
Between periods of partaking, I like to project energy forward into the session with positive intention and energy. I like to view it like Neo entering into the matrix. What positive energy, intention, and “gifts “are awaiting me in the matrix of the power plant experience? How has my perspective changed, my mindset, focus, emotional, well-being, and connection with the universe?
“Step into the energy” you and spirit have projected forward for this experience. I view the sun as the physical manifestation of an incredible, intelligent energy and being. As the sun is setting, we can more directly take it in visually. I often like to take in a diffuse, scattered visual effect as it works its way through the trees, and glistens and glimmers off the water. This combined with an attitude of gratitude and a sense of non-being /non-locality allows downloading of nature and spiritual energies. Breathe deeply into the experience to see what positive energies you can download for your health and well-being. “Nature bathing” at its finest!
I view the sessions as a vacation period from normal life. Clean diet and hydration with high-quality water during this period will enhance the experience.
Treat the process like a science. Learn your different strains, methods of ingestion, settings, and amount of intake. Remember, oral ingestion is a delayed reaction that has longer legs to the experience. The beauty of consumption via the volcano vaporizer is one gets fairly instant feedback level of the “high” obtained.
When doing chocolate, I typically am in the range of 5 to 10 mg.
I am sensitive to plant medicine so others may and do take more. Know thyself!
