Korean Ginseng (Panax Ginseng)
Korean ginseng is one of the most valued and expensive medicinal plants. The name Panax is derived from the Greek word for panacea or cure all. According to Chinese lore, ginseng replenishes vital energy, increases the production of body fluids, promotes health and longevity. Ginseng is a tonic herb which can revitalize the functioning of the body as a whole.
Ginseng increases vitality and the body’s ability to withstand stress by acting on the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal cortex axis. It strengthens the body’s immune response, promotes longevity and growth of normal cells. Ginseng enhances insulin sensitivity and prevents cancer in regular users.
It falls into the category of an adaptogenic herb.
I can be dosed for periods up to three months, but continuous use for the chronically sick and elderly is appropriate.
