Echinacea Root (Echinacea Augustifolia or Purpurea)
Echinacea root was very popular with the American Plain Indians. It was taught to the eclectic/holistic physicians of the day where it became their number one herb. Word spread to Europe and it became the number one herb there also. Very effective herb for immune enhancement acting on innate immunity, enhances resistance to infections, assists in recovery from chemotherapy, is anti-inflammatory in nature and anti-aging through its influence on the telomeres of the DNA.
The number one herb of one of the top herbalists in the world, Kerry Bone.
Good echinacea root tincture has the characteristic of causing a numbing/tingling sensation in the throat. This is due to the active ingredient Alkylamides. The root rather than the flowers or leaves is the desired part of the plant. Echinacea works well in treatment for infections, particularly upper respiratory infections, however, it even performs better in prevention of infections. Echinacea stimulates phagocytic activity which are the white blood cells engulfing and digesting harmful microorganisms. Echinacea binds to cannabinoid receptors. It has a particular affinity for CB2 receptors, binding as strongly as THC from cannabis. CB2 receptors predominate in immune tissues outside the central nervous system, especially in the spleen, and are believed to modulate immune function.
Recent research has shown the benefits of Echinacea root supplementation helping with anxiety. Studies showed the anxiolytic effects were seen in three different tests associated with anxiety.
Pink flowers, EchinaceaEchinacea has antiviral activity, anti-inflammatory and wound healing activity and promotes anti-aging through its preservation of the telomeres of the DNA. Fantastic herb that I take daily. I carry extra with me when I travel and in my car. I try to never be without it.
